It was Allegra’s commanding stage presence and her natural musicality that initially caught the attention of some of the industry’s biggest names. Produced by Scott Stoddart of the Hit Making Audiofreaks Stable, ‘All About Us‘ gives us a burst of well-needed summer vibes. The single has already hit #2 in both the Music Week Top 40 Club Commercial Pop Chart and Music Week Top 100 Club Chart.
We sat down with Allegra to talk all about her new single, her musical inspirations, and her plans for the future.
Hi Allegra! Could you quickly introduce yourself to those new to your music?
Hi, my names Allegra, I’m 16 years old and always loved music and singing. I’m so lucky to be able to sit in a studio with lots of creative people and write my own music which is inspired by some of my favourite artists and life experiences to date.
So, you’ve just released your debut single, ‘All About Us’, can you tell us about the inspiration behind the track?
For my debut single I really wanted to break into the market with a fun, upbeat and catchy song and I think we’ve definitely achieved this with ‘All About Us’! The song follows the story of two young people who want to be together but have had an argument that’s really tested their relationship. Luckily towards the end of the song though they come to the realisation that life’s too short to argue so instead they take the chance on giving the relationship a go and it all works out!
How did you find recording the single? Was it a different experience to the one you were expecting?
Oh wow, it was such an amazing experience and the whole team had such a great time recording together. As this was my debut single, introducing me as an artist, I think we all really wanted this single to be at the best it could be. At times we were changing huge sections of the song, which of course is creatively challenging, but the end result is exactly what I wanted.
Are there plans to release an accompanying music video…?
We’ve actually just finished editing the video, which will be released very soon – so watch this space!
You write your own songs which is so rare of an artist your age. When did you begin to hone your musical talents and realise that music was something you wanted to pursue properly?
From a young age I’ve always been singing and dancing at home and it’s been such an exciting journey following my dreams of becoming a recording artist. I’ve never been a girl of few words so putting my thoughts, experiences and stories down on paper comes naturally. I’ve learnt so much from people in the industry and they’ve all been a huge part in both my musical and song writing development and I can’t wait to see where we go next!
Who is your biggest musical inspiration and why?
It has to be Beyoncé! Firstly, I love her music, but it’s actually so much more than that – her drive for perfection, sheer determination and commitment to her music is just awe inspiring. Every song has a message she’s trying to deliver to young women and it’s inspirational to see her use her talents in such a positive way. She’s also just so much fun both on and off the stage, and you can tell that she’s not just doing this for the fame. Fingers crossed one day I will achieve the same!
Can you give a little hint about your plans for 2019?
The start of the year will be spent in the studio recording new music and focusing on future releases. We’re working really hard at the moment on my next single which I can’t to bring to you all soon.
And finally… If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life what would it be?
It would have to be “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” by the legendary Whitney Houston.
