Notre Dame received a commitment Tuesday night from four-star offensive tackle Guerby Lambert. Here’s what you need to know:

  • The 6-foot-6, 280-pound Lambert plays for Catholic Memorial High School in West Roxbury, Mass.
  • Lambert is ranked as the No. 2 offensive tackle and No. 48 prospect in the 247Sports Composite for 2024.
  • He chose the Irish over Ohio State, Boston College and Harvard.

What does Lambert’s commitment mean to Notre Dame’s class?

Lambert gives Notre Dame a marquee commitment in its offensive line class, following Peter Jones, Styles Prescod and Anthonie Knapp. Those three rate as four-star prospects in the 247Sports Composite, but industry opinions aren’t unanimous in the way they are with Lambert. The Massachusetts athlete, a former high school teammates of freshman defensive end Boubacar Traore, checks in at No. 48. He’s the third-highest rated prospect in Notre Dame’s class, trailing only receiver Cam Williams and quarterback CJ Carr.

The first Class of 2024 commitment in almost two months, Lambert also boosts Notre Dame in the 247Sports Composite team rankings to No. 7, passing Tennessee, Oklahoma, LSU and Penn State.

After landing top-100 quarterback Deuce Knight on Monday to boost the Class of 2025, the Lambert news continues Notre Dame’s strong September on the recruiting trail, with the Ohio State game imminent. The Irish expect to host a top list of prospects for the game, mostly for the Class of 2025, including Knight.

Could Notre Dame be done in the Class of 2024?

That’s unlikely, although the top remaining targets are committed elsewhere.

Five-star defensive tackle Justin Scott is the biggest name, with the Chicagoland prospect committed to Ohio State. The Irish aren’t expected to budge him off that pledge despite playing for a Catholic school in Chicago.

Four-star tight end Carter Nelson might be the most flip-able of the top targets. The 6-4, 205-pound tight end from Ainsworth, Neb., has been committed to the in-state Cornhuskers since late June. Marcus Freeman visited Nelson during the winter contact period and Notre Dame hosted the top-100 prospect for an official visit this summer, when he played golf with Carr and Nelson, plus assistant coaches Gino Guidugli, Gerad Parker and Chansi Stuckey. Nebraska’s sputtering start to the Matt Rhule era, combined with Notre Dame pushing the ball to its tight ends, has helped.

Four-star Kaleb Beasley remains committed to Tennessee, although Notre Dame has not given up on the Nashville product who starred at Irish Invasion two summers ago. It might take a surprise development in Knoxville to move him off his pledge.

The other remaining known target is safety Davis Andrews of Utah, who plans to go on a mission after high school, bumping him two classes down the road. BYU, UCLA and Utah also got official visits.
